Camellia

This glowing Camellia flower:

bolts of silk thrown in fresh air

held in stop-motion like the water

in Philipp Halsmann’s “Dali’s Cat”,

Hawaiian wave looping the curl,

pavilions of billowing calico,

dervishes whirling in wedding white,

elegant splay of egret’s wing,

songthrush swirls in spacious evening,

brush of light on fallen snow –

nourished by the living pulse,

hum of earth in thrall to sun:

life showing off to itself

in its own playground.
